Chinese Lantern

The Chinese Lantern, \’Physalis alkekengi (franchetii)\’, has bright orange, lantern-shaped, papery seed cases that will glow in your garden in the late summer. The Chinese Lantern is very popular because of its brilliant color, unique shape, and easy to grow capabilities. Plant in the spring, 1 to 2 weeks before the last frost or in the summer up to 2 months before the first fall frost. The Chinese Lantern is a striking addition to fall/winter decorations, as well as late summer color for borders, beds and containers.

Glowing Magenta Evening Primrose

The Evening Primrose, Glowing Magenta, \’Oenothera kunthiana\’, is a new Oenothera unlike any other. The deep pink flowers stand out against its deep green foliage. It has a plant height of 6\” and a spread of 5-10\”. `Glowing Magenta\’ is unusually compact for its species and has an extremely long flowering time, (June to September.) Oenothera requires full sun and needs a good drainage site. Try planting `Glowing Magenta\’ with Salvia, Achillea or Columbine. For a wonderful sun ground cover, one will not want to leave `Glowing Magenta\’ out of their garden.

Red Supertunia Petunia

The Petunia Supertunia r Red, \’Petunia hybrids\’, are brilliant in color and are very low maintenance. Supertunias are a vigorously trailing species of an everblooming, long-living petunia from Australia. They will provide long-term color in full sun areas throughout the season, and can grow nearly an inch a day. Supertunias are very heat and drought tolerant once established in the ground or pot. They do not need to have their dead flower heads removed to continue flowering and they are not leggy. For zones 9-11, this plant can also be a perennial.

The Water Oak tree, Quercus nigra, is also known as a spotted oak or possum oak. Water Oak trees are a conical to round-topped tree. It is a popular tree in the South as a shade and street tree. This deciduous tree is fast growing and it starts producing acorns before its 10th year. The Water Oak is found along streams and low ground. Water oak acorns provide food for many animals such as squirrels, white-tailed deer, and wild turkey.
