The Calla Lily Anneke, \’Zantedeschia\’, a spring planted tuber, produces wonderful purple flowers with lightly splotched foliage. The flower is trumpet like in form and has a waxy texture. Calla Lilies are also know as pig lilies. The Calla Lily has sword-shaped leaves which are formed at the end of celery-like stalks. The leaves are heart-shaped and are a rich, dark green color that may be speckled. The Calla Lilly makes an excellent cut flower and are great container plants.

Winter Delicata Squash

The Squash Winter Delicate Honey Boat, \’Cucurbita pepo\’, is as sweet as honey. This small Delicata is a gourmets delight and it is full of nutrition. Honey Boat is a small, very sweet, Delicata-type squash that weights 3/4 to 11/2 pounds and is a perfect size for one or two servings. The rich, dark orange flesh has a delectably sweet, nutty flavor. Delicata squash is ready to harvest when the stem and skin hardens and the orange spot on the darkens. Winter squash cannot be overripe, but they can be under ripe.

The Black Walnut tree, Juglans nigra, is prized for its wood and shade. Black Walnut trees are a large, moderately growing, majestic tree. Red Twigged Dogwood

The Dogwood \’Red Twigged\’, Cornus \’Baileyi\’, is a shade tolerant shrub with red bark in winter. This beautiful red stemmed dogwood has medium green foliage. The creamy white flowers are followed by blue-black fruits. Burgundy colored bark in the winter. It is good for hedge use and winter interest. Needs a sufficient watering routine. Full sun to part shade.

Magnolia x Ann

The Ann Magnolia tree, Magnolia x Ann, is a member of the \’Little Girl\’ series of Magnolias that are the result of a cross originally made at the U.S. National Arboretum. \’Ann\’ develops a somewhat open habit with deep purple-red, 7-9 inch petaled flowers. Ann Magnolia trees are vigorous and hardy. It forms a shrubby mound and has leathery green foliage. It has lightly scented reddish-purple flowers that emerge from beautiful, tapered buds. The flowers are large and red-purple on both sides.
