The Salvia `Marcus\’, Salvia nemorosa, is a new dwarf version of the Salvia `May Night\’. With its compact, dense habit of growing, it is easy to accommodate in any perennial garden. Spikes of intense violet-blue flowers bloom on top gray-green foliage and flower from June to October. `Marcus\’ has a plant height of 12\” and a spread of 12-18\”. It is hardy for container gardening, as a border plant and provides excellent cut flowers. Blooms look wonderful next to Sedum `Matrona\’, Achillea \’Coronation Gold\’ and Saliva `Snow Hill\’.

Tassel Grape Hyacinth

The Grape Hyacinth \’Tassel\’, \’Armeniacum comosum\’, is a fall planted bulb. The Tassel grape hyacinth is the strangest looking Grape Hyacinth. Its flower stalk is up to 2 ft. tall with pale brown urn-shaped fertile flowers on the lower half, and blue flowers on the upper half. The cluster of flowers atop the stalk looks like a tassel. Grape Hyacinths are a hardy, no-care, mid spring flowering bulb. They are excellent as cut flowers, for rock gardens, beds, borders, and under trees and bushes. Try planting a large drift of Muscari armeniacum in your garden for a flowing effect.

The Centaurea `Bachelor\’s Button\’, Centaurea montana, also know as Cornflower and Blue Bottle, has small thistle-like single flowers at the end of a delicate stem, being bright blue and very showy, with gray-green foliage. With a height of 24\” and a plant width of 12-24\”, it is an excellent late summer to early fall bloomer. Use Centaurea `Bachelor\’s Button\’ massed in border fronts, cottage gardens or naturalized areas. For planting with other perennials, try `Illumination\’ Vinca, `Variegated\’ Sedum or Echinacea `Purple Coneflower\’.

White Guinea-hen flower
