The Dianthus \’Rosie Cheeks\’ has vibrant pink flowers that look especially stunning combined with blue and purple shades. Dianthus will bloom from mid summer to early fall. In order for a longer bloom time, deadhead the blooms continuously throughout the summer. Dianthus needs a sunny site with well-drained soil, but will tolerate some shade in the afternoon and humidity. These fragrant, spicy dove like flowers look wonderful as a border plant, rock gardens, along walks or paths, for edging and a definite in cottage gardens.

Brocoverde Cauliflower

The Cauliflower Brocoverde, \’Brassica oleracea\’, is a very sweet tasting cauliflower that deserves a place in your garden. If you like cauliflower, then try this new, green variety. The taste is quite sweet, and Brocoverde takes the spring heat better than regular cauliflower, thus making spring plantings more successful in northern climates. Keep soil moist and water deeply at least once a week. Harvest the heads when buds are tight by cutting the stalk below the head.

Golden Raintree

Golden Raintree

The Golden Raintree, Koelreuteria Paniculata, is an excellent tree and unrivaled for late yellow flowers. Golden Raintrees are also known as Chinese Flame trees. It is one of the very few yellow flowering trees. This deciduous tree is excellent as a small lawn tree, or for shading a patio. The seed pods look like tiny Chinese lanterns. It has rounded outline, spreading and ascending branches, open, reddish copper-colored foliage in the spring. They are very tolerant of polluted air environments.

Spectrum Mandela Begonia

The Begonia Spectrum Mandela, \’Begonia x hybrida\’, are wonderfully floriferous plants that are at home in the garden, or in patio containers. This begonia is a cross between the winter flowering Begonia socotrana, and the summer flowering tuberous types of begonias. These plants perform best when soil temperatures are above 60øF and when planted in flowerbeds. They should not be subjected to more than « day of sun as they will not tolerate a full sun location. Too much shade however, may cause the plants to become soft and less prolific in bloom.

White Peony

The White Peony, Paeonia lactiflora. Although there are many Peonies on the market in this day and age, at this time we have chosen unnamed varieties, simply pink, red and white. Peonies are one of the best cut flowers and are often used in the Midwest to decorate gravesites on Memorial Day. All of our peonies are widely adaptable to most soils across the country. The white peony featured here has a very clean, pure white flower that really is a wonderful specimen in the garden.

Red Sun Shallot

The Onion Shallot Red Sun, Allium cepa \’Red Sun\’, a spring planted bulb, produces an oval or elongated bulb, formed in clusters on a common base. The flavor of a shallot is less pronounced than an onion. The Onion Shallot Red Sun is probably the best of the red shallots. It has a hardy flavor perfect for cooking or topping a salad. Shallots are considered essential in French cooking, with a flavor somewhere between onions and garlic. Use greens as you would use green onions or chives. Place them in loose, fertile soil for best results.

The Coleus Splash, \’Coleus hybrid\’, has bright green to light chartreuse foliage that is liberally splashed and splattered with rich purple. These new, bigger, sun loving varieties have revolutionized contanier gardening. The brilliant colors explode in sunny locations. Coleus plants are durable and easy to grow. The coleus plants are a tender perennials. Poorly drained soils and excessive watering will damage coleus. Plants suffering from \”wet feet\” will be stunted, leaves will turn a muddy brown, and leaf margins will be scorched.For zones 10-11, this plant can also be a perennial.
